After reading this entry in Perversion in the News, I was reminded of Thomas Granger the Pilgrim who was executed for “buggery with a mare, a cowe, two goats, divers sheepe, two calves, and a turkey.” At least the subject of this story was only had his clothing ceremonially drowned. I’m a bit torn on the fate of the cow.  After all, the cow didn’t do anything wrong, except perhaps complimenting the wrong farmhand.  That said, I don’t think I would be keen to find out that cow was used to make the burger I at yesterday.

Also I am perplexed that anyone would think that the cow “was asking for it” defense will garner them any sympathy.  Then again, anyone who would have sex with a cow probably isn’t playing with a full deck.

On a more sobering note, I couldn’t help but wonder if this isn’t the sort of culture that upon observing a rape wouldn’t force the victim to marry their attacker.
